Again in Papua New Guinea, we serve a third term with Mission Aviation Fellowship. We currently stay in Telefomin, a village in the West of the highlands close to the Indonesian border. With small airplanes, MAF supports people living in the bush enabling basic services like health care, education, and community development, as well as spiritual support through church workers.
The Special Relationship
The special relationship between Australia and Papua New Guinea derives from PNG's former status as an Australian Territory until it achieved nationhood in 1975. Many Australians served in PNG as public servants, missionaries, entrepreneurs and in other roles—and many were born there. These close bonds with Papua New Guinea and its people remain to this day.

The Association
The PNGAA is a dynamic association for people with interests in contemporary and historical events in Papua New Guinea, supporting friendly and positive relationships between the people of PNG and Australia, and the preservation of historical material related to Papua New Guinea. Its journal, titled Una Voce, is published quarterly and has progressed from a brief news sheet to a highly-praised journal of over 60 pages. At the same time, the Association's membership has expanded into a global network of almost 1500 members.

Background
The PNGAA was originally established as the Retired Officers' Association (ROAPNG) in 1951 to safeguard the interests and retirement conditions of superannuated former Australian public servants who had worked in the then Territory of Papua and New Guinea. While the safeguarding of these interests remains an objective of the PNGAA, its scope is now much broader. Over the years, the Association's role has progressively changed to include activities such as supporting projects in PNG, working to strengthen the Australia-PNG relationship, and preserving historical materials related to PNG, as well as facilitating communication and interaction between members.

History
The Free West Papua Campaign was launched in 2004 in Oxford, UK. We have grown from being a volunteer organisation through to having permanent offices in Oxford (UK), The Hague (Netherlands), Port Moresby (Papua New Guinea) and Perth (Australia). We are a group of people from human rights, political and environmental backgrounds, a number of whom are West Papuans or have spent time in West Papua. Our leadership comes from West Papuan representatives internationally, and in West Papua itself.

 Aims
We are a peaceful, public campaign, whose aim is very simple: to give the people of West Papua the freedom to choose their own destiny through a fair and transparent referendum – a freedom they have always been denied. We work with politicians of all parties, and also with other NGOs and campaign groups, both national and international, towards this aim. We have no religious, party-political or corporate affiliations, and we are determinedly non-violent. Our funding comes from donations, the sale of merchandise, public fundraising events and occasional grants from charitable foundations. For more information about the aims and structure of the Free West Papua Campaign please take a look at our Guidelines for Free West Papua Supporters and Groups.

Do you want to be involved in something that has eternal value that not only impacts people spiritually but also helps them in many practical ways? Discover what God is doing in the South Pacific and join us in this great adventure!

Wendy Johnson - I believe that everyone in the South Pacific (and the rest of the world) should have access to a Bible that they can clearly understand in their context. One of my roles with Wycliffe Bible Translators is to share the needs for this area and hope that God will raise up people to join us in the task. My husband and I served in Papua New Guinea for 14 years and, while I’d love to visit all the countries we work in, I have visited Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have about our work and my hope is that some will want to join us. We’ve been serving with Wycliffe for over 30 years and I have to say, it’s a great way to spend your life! Come join us!

It all started in Japan in August 2014 . I was trying out HELPEX work exchange program in Japan ( I was too broke to afford a hotel in Japan, so free stay sounded ideal). My stories seemed to trill others.

So.. Like other hundreds of travelers i created a blog. For ME its a way to record some of ..my madness that i can look at for years to come...

Our Pacific Ways reflects on Our Pacific traditions for inspiration to move Our Pacific People forward.
We live in a part of the world that has huge potential but is currently being subjected to a model of development that only allows for a few elite and money-men to prosper at the expense of the vast majority of Our people.
Our Pacific Ways challenges the current systems of exploitation and asks: What if we did things according to Our Pacific ways?

Welcome to the land of the unexpected! I have set up this pickletastic blog to share positive, inspiring, and interesting stories from Papua New Guinea (PNG). In 2013, I ignored the sensational stories and disregarded the narrow-minded reporting on PNG and started a 15-month placement with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). I’ve been in PNG ever since and it has had a profound effect on me, shaping the course of my future.
